Getting around Cagliari

Flights to Cagliari land at Mario Mameli International Airport, the closest to the city and the largest airport in Sardinia. You have three options for reaching the city centre from the airport: you can take a taxi, use the ARST shuttle service or take the train, which leads directly to the centre. The train station is located inside the airport. Cagliari has several public transport services, but given the size of the centre many prefer to visit it on foot, perhaps with a guide.

What to see in Cagliari

The Bastion of Saint Remy is an impressive granite lookout that connects the lower town to the castle, from which you can enjoy a spectacular sunset. The Gothic cathedral of Santa Maria is of inimitable charm, as is the Sanctuary of Bonaria, one of the largest on the island. Nature lovers will adore the salt pans of Molentargius, a favourite destination of flamingos.

The best beaches of Cagliari

Poetto Beach is worth a visit with its fine sand and the emerald sea perfect for swimming. The beach also offers opportunities to enjoy snorkelling and other water sports. The long and beautiful Costa Rei is one of the most appreciated destinations thanks to its clear sea and dreamlike landscape. Not surprisingly, Costa Rei is on the list of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world: a real gem!

Dining suggestions

The typical cuisine of Cagliari includes many dishes based on the ultra-fresh catch of the day, without overly elaborate recipes; we therefore recommend the most "home-made" and genuine taverns that offer the real cuisine of the area. Cagliari is waiting to be discovered - explore the city, choosing what you most prefer to visit!
