How to get around

Greece is connected to the main European capitals by two main airports and numerous domestic airports which, especially during the summer, connect the islands to the mainland and the main European destinations. The two main airports are Athens and Thessaloniki, from where it is possible to reach all the most popular tourist destinations in the country via short flights.

• Athens Airport It is located 33 km from the city centre. It is a well-structured airport connected to Athens by means of a modern underground line, and to the port of Piraeus, where visitors can embark for the islands. In addition, numerous bus lines leave from the designated area at the arrivals terminal.

• Thessaloniki Airport It is situated 13 km from the city centre. There are numerous bus lines that connect the airport to the city centre, with a journey time of about 40 minutes. Thessaloniki airport serves all the destinations in Northern Greece.

• Crete Airport Heraklion is the main airport in Crete and is situated 5 km from the island's capital. For connections to and from the airport, you can opt for the bus line to the city centre, while taxis and rental cars afford greater freedom.

• Rhodes Airport It is situated 14 km from Rhodes Town. Regular buses reach the city centre.
