Places of interest
Corfu is much more than just seaside and beaches, such as the extraordinary historic centre of Corfu Town, elected a World Heritage Site by Unesco. A magical and colourful urban labyrinth characterised by yellow and pink tones, where you will find elegant Venetian-style buildings alternating with public squares with gardens and fountains, fortresses and terraces overlooking the sea. The Church of San Giorgio, the Royal Palace and the Museum of Asian Art are all worth a visit. Other delightful itineraries on the island include the Achilleion Palace (built by the will of Empress Sissi), the magnificent Monastery of Vlachérna, the fortified Acropolis of Angelokastro and the archaeological site of Paleopolis.
The best beaches in Corfu
The island features beaches that are nothing short of enchanting: the bays in the village of Paleokastritsa, the so-called Canal D'Amour (Channel of Love) in Sidari, the beaches of Gouvia, Dassia and Barbati, suitable for the whole family and quite close to Corfu Town, the wild and pristine bay of Kalami to the north, the beaches of Porto Timoni and Agios Georgios Pagon to the west and Halikounas beach to the south, perfect for surfing and kitesurfing.
