The modern and technologically advanced design of the Boeing 737-8 MAX family originates from the iconic 737, which is renowned as the best-selling aircraft in the history of commercial aviation. A total of 6,828 aircraft have been ordered and 5,268 have been delivered since its début in 1960. Succeeding the Boeing 737 Next Generation (NG), it is the fourth version of the Boeing 737 to be released.
The 737-8 MAX is designed to offer passengers a comfortable flying experience and the convenience of direct flights to their favourite destinations. The aircraft is built on the core principle of Boeing's philosophy, which is to provide airlines with added value through reliable and straightforward products that have lower operating and maintenance costs. The variants of the new family are the 737-7, 737-8 and 737-9, based on the 737-700, -800 and -900 respectively. The 737-10 offers an even longer fuselage to operators and passengers. The roll-out of the first 737-8 MAX took place on 8 December 2015 at the Boeing plant in Renton, Washington. On 6 May 2017, the first aircraft was delivered to the airline Malindo Air, which operated its inaugural commercial flight on 22 May 2017.
The new cockpit, which is compatible with that of the previous generation, incorporates the latest display technology that was developed for the 787. Four 15-inch screens allow pilots and technicians to easily view navigation, performance, engine and maintenance data in various formats. Two powerful CFM LEAP-1B High-Bypass Turbofan engines and Advanced Technology (AT) Winglets, have redefined the future, making the 737-8 MAX an environmentally friendly aircraft. The AT Winglets are the most efficient Winglets ever installed on a commercial aircraft. This is due to their new design and advanced production techniques, which enable a natural laminar flow and reduced resistance. As a result, they contribute greatly to the reduction of fuel consumption.
The cabins of the 737-8 MAX have been designed according to the latest production standard called "Boeing Sky Interior". Resulting from years of research inspired by the travel experiences, the 737 Boeing Sky Interior includes softer curved ceiling panels, "sculpted" side panels and LED lights. These enhancements increase the sense of spaciousness, creating a more comfortable atmosphere and providing passengers with a pleasurable travel experience.
The overhead luggage compartments are also part of this new design. These compartments are called "Space Bins" and suitcases can be placed vertically inside them, increasing capacity. In addition, the geometric shape of the Space Bins has been studied and developed to facilitate access and to be able to check what is inside. Finally, the Bin Assist Mechanism (BAM), an actuator mechanism installed on the side of the overhead luggage compartments, reduces the force required to close them in the event of a large load, such as when numerous suitcases are placed inside.
