Getting around Catania

Flights to Catania land at Vincenzo Bellini Airport, one of the largest in Italy. From there you can take one of the frequent Alibus AMTs, which connect the airport with the historic centre, or take one of the many taxis available. The historic centre can easily be visited on foot, but it is also served by many buses and a metro line.

What to see in Catania

Catania is a wonderful city full of natural and architectural wonders! The historic Ursino Castle and the splendid Cathedral of Sant'Agata are worth a visit. Another point of great interest is the Elephant Fountain, a symbol of the city. The Benedictine Monastery is a structure entirely in white stone and a destination of great charm. Visitors to Catania absolutely must visit Mt Etna, one of the most famous active volcanoes in the world. Simply seeing it while travelling on the Circumetnea Railway is a great travel experience!

The best beaches of Catania

With its green waters surrounded by tuff rock, Praiola di Giarre Beach is a much loved destination. Stazzo Beach near Catania is famous for its black cliffs, while the small beach of Santa Tecla is renowned for its blue waters. Santa Maria La Scala beach offers access to the fascinating Grotta delle Palombe, a mythical and suggestive place. Aci Trezza Beach is considered one of the most beautiful in all of Catania, while Foce Simeto Beach in the Simeto Nature Reserve will appeal to nature lovers.
