Getting around Wenzhou

Once you arrive at your destination, there are several ways to get around the city. Cabs are widely available and offer a convenient and flexible means of transportation for those who want to get around in comfort. Buses are one of the most popular means of public transportation in the city, but there is also an excellent subway line being developed. Wenzhou Railway Station is one of the most important in Zhejiang Province and connects the city to some of China's most famous destinations, such as Shanghai and Beijing.

What to visit in Wenzhou

There are many things to see in Wenzhou on a trip to China. Mount Yandang is famous for its scenic beauty and extraordinary rock formations. The trails up the mountain slopes are a paradise for hikers and photographers. Yandang Mountains National Park, where precisely the mountain is located, is one of the most popular destinations in the region. Within it is also the Yongjia Bridge, one of the world's largest suspension bridges. Other things to see in Wenzhou include the Dazhong Temple. It is located in the heart of the city and is one of the most spiritual places in the center. In Wenzhou's Old Town, the historic heart of the city, you can take a closer look at the majestic traditional Chinese architecture. To delve deeper into local history, don't miss the Wenzhou Museum as well. Its in-house collection of archaeological artifacts tells the story of the different facets of regional history. Jiangxin Park, located on the banks of the Oujiang River, is another must-see for lovers of nature and outdoor adventures. Strolling along the Wuma Street, you will find local bars, restaurants, and markets where you can immerse yourself in the city's daily life and sample the best dishes of traditional cuisine.

Where to eat

Traditional dishes in Wenzhou include one that is very popular in Zhejinag province: a rice dish with vegetables, pork marinated in soy sauce, sautéed egg, and spring onion. Not to be missed is the hot soup, often made from corn and wheat flour, which is meant to "prepare" the stomach for the rest of the meal. Stir-fried tofu-and in all its variations-is delicious and completely different from what is used to in the West. Among the things to eat in Wenzhou are also many seafood dishes, especially river-based varieties, since that is what is fished the most. You can accompany this with rice wine or hot tea, often made with dates and goji berries. Walking along Wuma Street and the rest of Wenzhou Old Town, you will find restaurants of all kinds, from the more modern to those offering more traditional dishes.
