Getting around La Romana

Flights to La Romana land in the homonymous international airport, one of the largest in the country. To get to the city you can take a taxi or a Guagua, a van offering collective rides. Carritos (a smaller version of a Guagua) or Motoconchos (motorbike taxis) are two other widely used means of transport. Alternatively, you can take buses, rent a car, or visit the city on foot.

What to see in La Romana

La Romana owes its name to the Italian family that ruled it centuries ago. This led to the creation of Altos De Chavon, a unique Mediterranean-style village with a special amphitheatre and stone houses. You can also reach nearby Bayahibe and pay a visit to its sugar cane plantations.
