Places of interest
One of the most picturesque places in Cancun is Isla Mujeres, with particular reference to Punta Sur, an authentic paradise just a short distance from the city. It is a large cliff overlooking the sea, surrounded by rich vegetation and turquoise waters. Nature lovers must stop at the Nichupté Lagoon, which extends over almost 3,000 hectares and is home to mangrove forests and wild animals such as leopards, crocodiles and iguanas. History enthusiasts, on the other hand, must visit El Rey, an ancient Mayan city, and El Meco, an archaeological site dominated by Castillo, a completely intact step pyramid.
Best beaches
The beaches of the Hotelera area have nothing to envy in comparison to the most picturesque beaches of the Mexican Caribbean. The most popular are Playa Caracol and Playa Tortugas, both characterised by white sand. Playa Delfines and Playa Chac Mool the only beach to have a name in the Mayan language, are also wonderful options.
