How to get around

Flights to Varadero land at Juan Gualberto Gomez International Airport, located about 25 kilometres from the main beaches. To get around Varadero, the best options include hiring a car, using public buses or hiring a scooter. Excursions to nearby islands are offered on boats and catamarans.

What to see

The focal point of Varadero is the princely beauty of its beaches. However, there are numerous alternative and complementary opportunities for fun and relaxation. They include the Municipal Museum of Varadero dedicated to the city's local history; Parque Josone, an artificial park where you can spend hours relaxing in the vegetation; the Delfinarium which will entertain adults and children alike; Cueva de Ambrosio, a cave embellished with cave paintings; the Varahicacos ecological reserve, where you can walk among unspoilt nature.

The best beaches in Varadero

Varadero beach is 21 kilometres long; it is ideal thanks to the quality of its white sand and its clear and warm waters, perfect for diving and snorkelling. Not far away there's also Playa Giron, with an incredible turquoise sea, and Carabelas, equipped with every service but also able to offer peaceful and quiet areas. A day trip to the beach of Cayo Blanco should also be considered: it's uninhabited and therefore a guarantee for relaxation and tranquillity.

Dining and entertainment suggestions

There's a million opportunities for fun in Varadero. The resorts offer shows, music, parties and entertainment, while there are several nightclubs along the peninsula where you can dance until the early hours, as well as pubs with live performances by Cuban artists. The most popular venues are Casa della Musica, Cabaret Continental, Cueva del Pirata and Comparsita. There are also numerous restaurants specializing in Caribbean, Chinese, Spanish or Italian cuisine. The events not to be missed include the World Music Festival in June, the Gourmet Festival (gastronomy) between April and June and Carnival (variable dates, usually in January).
