How to get around

Direct flights to Salalah will land at Salalah International Airport, which is about 5.5 kilometres from the city centre and is the second largest port for passenger traffic in the Sultanate of Oman. A convenient and cheap taxi ride is the best way to reach Salalah. Alternatively, visitors can rent a car and travel independently, or rely on local buses, however, this service is quite infrequent.

Places of interest

Salalah houses one of the most famous mosques in the country, the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. It is located in the heart of the city and it is a true masterpiece from an architectural point of view. It features two huge domes and as many minarets. The interior is entirely decorated and the floor is covered with hundreds of carpets. Don't miss Taqah Castle, one of the most famous in Dhofar, built by Sheikh Ali Bin Taman Al Ma'shani. The archaeological site of Al Balid is also very interesting, located near the famous Hala Souk. It has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque places in Salalah.

Best beaches

The must-see beaches include Al Mughsail, featuring white sand and bathed in crystal clear waters. The green mountain behind it adds further beauty to this already marvellous beach, in addition to the waterfalls that flow down during the rainy season. This is a show that is unique all over the world! Be sure not miss Al Fizayah Beach, recommended for nature lovers and accessible along a dirt road about 10 kilometres long.

Typical bars and restaurants

In Salalah, there's no shortage of bars and restaurants where you can enjoy typical dishes. These include Mekong Restaurant, Al Mina, Sakalan, and Dolphin Beach Restaurant. But those who are familiar with the city know that the main attraction remains the Salalah Festival, which runs from July to September. This period features a series of traditional events, celebrating the arrival of the highly anticipated monsoon season.
