How to get around

Travelling around Oman is possible thanks to an excellent quality transport network. Bus services offer two or three daily lines and visitors can even reach the neighbouring Arab Emirates. Many prefer to travel via minibuses, which carry up to a maximum of 15 passengers. The most immediate means of transport are definitely taxis, with fairly low rates.

Places of interest

Oman is a country to be discovered. Muscat, the capital, should be any visitor's first must-see destination. It's a city that contemporaneously demonstrates pride in its history while embracing modernity. The must-see attractions include the white mosque of Sultan Qaboos; Aj Jalali Fort, a prison built during the Portuguese occupation, which overlooks the city, making it the ideal point to take a panoramic photo of the whole city to take home as a souvenir; finally, the Royal Palace, which cannot be visited inside, but which can be admired externally in all its magnificent grandeur. Salalah, the "incense road", the lost city of Ubar, called the Atlantis of the Desert and the Al Hashman desert, where the highest and most spectacular dunes are located, are recommended destinations outside the capital. Finally, the Hajar Mountains ensure long and unforgettable trekking excursions, while Al Hamra guarantees a timeless atmosphere.

Boasting 1,700 kilometres of coastline, Oman beaches include true natural treasures. Ras al Jinz Turtle Beach is a natural coastline with intriguing charm, while Al Jissah Beach guarantees excellent facilities. Masirah Island and Sur Beach are ideal for water sport enthusiasts.

Among the various typical restaurants, Turkish House offers high-quality Turkish cuisine. Grand Lounge Oman is renowned for its eggplant salad. Lokanta guarantees an excellent lentil soup. Those who want a modern restaurant should try Zurbian, a very large restaurant where you can feel like you are in a big family.
